Hands on session:
Modeling of a 4-axle bogie vehicle   

In this hands-on session a railway vehicle shall be created from beginning. However some standard files which are the same for all railway vehicles are copied to the users work directory.

1. Open the gensys file manager window by clicking on the G-icon on the desktop, or click on the following link: Start Gensys.
   
   
2. Create a work space by writing the UNIX-command mkdir my_vehicle_11.
   
   
3. Goto the newly created directory.
   
   
4. Under the pulldown menu Help press Examples Html.
   
   
5. Scroll down and click on program TSIM.
   
   
6. In the page "Input data examples for Program TSIM", press on the link vehicle_BoBo_frame.
   
   
7. Press Copy in the popup-widows, in order to accept the files to be copied the to your directory.
   
   
8. In your local directory my_vehicle_BoBo has now two directories been created: runf and vhedat.
   Directory runf contains the file: tsim_BoBo.tsimf The main input data file.
   Directory vhedat contains the files:

   std_inserts.ins	Insert file containing standard input data required for all models on rails.
   UIC-518_lim_passenger.ins	Insert file which calculates limit values accoring to UIC 518 and CEN TC256/WG10.
   BoBo.propf	Insert file to be completed by the user. The file are planned to contain default property data of the vehicle.
   BoBo.ins	Insert file to be completed by the user. The file are planned to contain all masses, springs and dampers of the vehicle.

   
   
   
9. Open file vhedat/BoBo.propf in nedit and create properties for the following couplings:

10. Open file vhedat/BoBo.ins in nedit and create the following couplings:

11. The model is ready and calculations now can begin. Please mark and run file runf/tsim_BoBo.tsimf
    
    
12. Animate the simulation in Gplot by:
    • Mark file runf/tsim_BoBo.tsimf and press the Gplot button.
    • In Gplot press File->read_GPdat
    • Select ident gp/tsim_BoBo.gp
    • Press the Fwd button in the lower menu bar
    
    
13. As can be seen in the animation not very much happens. The animation shows a time-domain simulation on tangent track without track irregularities with perfect initial conditions.
    
    
14. Introduce a track alignment error by changing line 109 in file runf/tsim_BoBo.tsimf
    From:
    func char ctrack_irreg= Ideal_track
    To:
    func char ctrack_irreg= Latshift_A5
    
    
15. Run file runf/tsim_BoBo.tsimf again
    
    
16. Reload the new simulation into Gplot by selecting File->read_GPdat + gp/tsim_BoBo.gp
    
    
17. The deformation amplitude can be scaled under View->show_1_diag. In order to clearly see the motions Deformation scale fact could be set equal to 70.

If time permits:

1. Copy file runf/tsim_BoBo.tsimf into runf/modal_BoBo.modalf. Make and animate a modal analysis.
   
   
2. Copy file runf/tsim_BoBo.tsimf into runf/R800.tsim. Make and animate a curve simulation.
